The Ecological Dimesion
Main Users of Area
There are many different groups of people that use and interact withe the area around Fairy Meadow Beach. Some of these groups include: -Residents -Swimmers -Surfers -Picnickers -Tourists -Visitors -Life guards -Photographers -School groups -Sports players -Cyclists Many of these groups use the area for recreational purposes such as swimming, picnicking or surfing. Others use the area as where they live or play sport and also some use the area to see the views and experience the nature and beauty of the beach and bush. |
Effect on Environment and Each Other
Some ways these groups effect each other and the environment include rubbish, destruction of environment from many people walking on areas and the clearing and building on land around the area Rubbish A large effect groups using the environment have is leaving rubbish around the area. When rubbish is left on the ground it is easily blown by the wind into the ocean and into surrounding bushland. This rubbish can potentially harm or kill sea creatures such as turtles and other animals such as birds. Leaving rubbish around also diminishes the natural beauty of the area and causes beautiful areas of bush to become unsightly. Leaving rubbish on the ground also effects other groups. Tourists, visitors, residents, photographers and even recreational users can be effected by rubbish. Areas that are unsightly are not going to want to be seen by tourists and visitors and photographers are also going to be effected. Rubbish like glass an aluminum can cause hazards for beach goers as swimmers and surfers are often walking around with out shoes. When groups leave rubbish around it has an effect on the environment and other groups. |
Destruction of Environment
When many people walk over the same patch of ground the environment around it can be severely damaged. When many people walk over sand dunes and vegetation on these dunes, the sand dunes become unprotected against erosion. The same goes for environments such as bush. When many people walk over plants and ground the vegetation is often killed and the ground may become unstable and unsafe. If the vegetation around an area is killed or flattened areas become unsightly and even dangerous. This effects all other groups that are moving around the area as they are in danger of tripping and injuring themselves |
Clearing and Building on Land
Because so many people want to live on or near the cost there is a big push for houses, cafes and hotels to be built near the coast. So many people want to live near and profit from the beauty of the coast so often land is cleared and houses and other buildings such as cafes are built. Other services are often installed as a population grows and often bushland is cleared for these things. By having houses, paths, shops and car parks around the coastal environment we are diminishing the natural beauty of the land and destroying habitats and environments. The installation of shops and paths often benefit groups such as tourists and cyclists but also cause other issues like rubbish and creating unsightly areas and cause the area to feel like a business zone instead of a relaxing beach. |
